Job Description

The University of Alaska Foundation Accounting Manager is responsible for all functions performed by the UA Foundation's accounting department. The mission of the UA Foundation is to seek, secure, and steward philanthropic support to enhance excellence at the University of Alaska. The values of the Foundation team are Trust, Excellence, Service, and Teamwork. Technical skills and knowledge are important for the position, but Foundation Accounting Manager must also be a customer focused team leader committed to accounting process improvement.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 
- Advanced knowledge of fund accounting and generally accepted accounting standards for nonprofits;
- Ability to lead and supervise staff;
- Aptitude for innovative thinking and creative problem solving;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus from staff in other departments;
- Ability to extract and interpret information from complex relational databases

Required Experience:
- 3 years of progressively responsible professional fiscal experience in nonprofit accounting;
- 3 years in a supervisory role with hiring, training, and performance evaluation responsibilities

Typical Education and Training: 
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration; CPA licensure preferred

Probationary Period: Pursuant to University Regulation 04.07.020, new employees of the University are employed in an at-will probationary status for the first six months of employment.   During the probationary period, employment may be terminated for no reason or any reason.  Promoted employees also serve a probationary period with limited rights of retreat.
