Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
We are searching for a motivated candidate to join our accounting department to help manage exciting and challenging accounting and compliance projects. Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Projects Manager will lead the implementation of accounting standards as well as a variety of projects to review recording, close, and reporting processes while serving as a technical accounting resource within the company. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, a keen desire to continuously improve processes, and possess a deep knowledge of accounting principles and internal control processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Accounting
• Lead technical accounting projects, including accounting standards evaluation and implementation
• Prepare ad hoc financial information for CFO, department heads, and other members of management
• Assess accounting policies and procedures to ensure efficient processing of accounting data, information flow, and appropriate internal controls
• Research complex accounting requirements and prepare accounting position memos

Financial Statements
• Implement and provide ongoing monitoring of compliance with new accounting and presentation standards
• Work on the preparation of various internal and external financial statements
• Assist with managing external audits

Additional Responsibilities
• Targeted review and monitoring of specific accounting processes
• Review recoding, closing, and reporting processes and contribute to process change implementation
• Provide staff training in accounting standards as needed
• Ability to work occasional overtime is required
• Occasional overnight travel is required
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
• A minimum of six years of progressively responsible accounting experience of which two years must be in public accounting
• Advanced knowledge of the Accounting Standards Codification and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
• Proven experience with financial reporting and project management
• Thorough understanding of internal control processes
• Strong managerial and interpersonal skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Corporate / operational accounting experience
• CPA license
• Big4 public accounting experience
• Utilities accounting experience
• Fairbanks area applicants preferred

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities and abilities.
