Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:The Construction Controller provides the management team with accurate and timely financial information via financial statements, process controls, reviews, and internal audits. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining accounting practices and procedures that produce financial information conforming to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position is also responsible for managing the Financial Accounting team to ensure that duties for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll are being completed by the Managerial Accounting team in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and year-end audit preparation for multiple companies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manage the Financial Accounting team to ensure timely, accurate, and GAAP compliant financial reporting and provide the information to the executive management team.
Work with the Financial Accounting managers to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Assist Financial Accounting management team in the day-to-day operations of the department, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, equipment fleet management, inventory management and general ledger.
Oversee monthly close and preparation of WIP.
Responsible for preparation and audit of financial statements.
Collaboration with external auditors.
Responsible for the review of all taxation reporting with government or regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with federal and state laws.
Responsible for assisting in the management of established systems and controls to ensure data integrity, security, and accuracy.
Ensure staff is completing required functions as well as developing their technical and professional skills.
Initiate and implement improvements to mapped accounting processes.
Coordinate with multiple departments and subsidiaries.
Maintain collaborative communication within Brice, Inc., Calista Brice, and Calista Corporation and attend meetings as needed.
Assist with budget development and forecasting.
Keep informed of current trends and practices in field of accounting.
Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
Perform other duties as directed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will supervise multiple positions within the Financial Accounting department, primarily the Financial Accounting management team.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Advanced knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Excellent oral and written communication skills and possess and demonstrate interpersonal skills needed for a team leader.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to communicate effectively in a group setting.
Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems (Viewpoint Spectrum preferred).
Well-developed financial analysis capabilities.
Demonstrated ability to manage software operations and applications.
Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software systems.
Ability to organize multiple tasks and identify critical issues.
Sets challenging goals and demonstrates persistence to overcome obstacles.
Well-developed management skills.
Proven ability to recruit, train, and motivate personnel to balance staffing strength with profitability and growth.
Strong analytical abilities.
Able to travel for work related purposes for extended periods of time (15% of the time, as needed).
Ability to work in a Native Corporation multi-business environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Minimum of ten years’ accounting experience in complex, multi-variable businesses, including construction accounting.
Experience in construction software preferred.
Three years previous experience in supervising accounting staff required.
CPA preferred.
Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy.
Ability to pass drug and background screening.
