SPEAKER:  Rick Jones, Chief Investigator –Alaska Division of Insurance

My name is Rick Jones, chief investigator with the Alaska Division of Insurance having served in this position since May 1993. There are four investigators, a dedicated prosecutor and an admin support and we have statewide jurisdiction. We conduct investigations into all areas of violations of the insurance laws. Every person that has been criminally charged has been convicted by a guilty or no contest plea and those addressed administratively  have the appropriate sanctions taken.

TOPIC: How insurance fraud effects  you and the role a Certified Public Accountant can play.

I will talk from actual case investigations in how insurance fraud effects everyone, citing examples of fraudulent everyday schemes (Zachary Sheehan /June Freeman / Samantha Delay Wilson / Steven Rudolph . I will discuss insurance agents who fail to remit premium to the insurance companies (Citing Terry McDermott Insurance Agency / Charles Lampley Insurance Agency) and the role and ethic obligations a CPA has to report to law enforcement financial discrepancies that defy common sense.

After all it took an accountant to put Al Capone in jail!!
