Job Title: Accountant

Purpose: Cold Climate Housing Research Center (CCHRC) and Information Insights are looking for a highly motivated self-starter interested in being part of non-hierarchical team. This individual would be responsible for managing the company’s business, financial and administrative function for Information Insights and the bookkeeping for CCHRC with the opportunity to move into a managerial function in the future. This position requires an in-depth knowledge of internal accounting and technical expertise in computerized accounting systems.The person in this position must possess the leadership and independent decision-making skills to participate in a team-based management environment that offers a great deal of flexibility in work schedules.


Job Duties:
• Maintain computerized ledger of all fiscal transactions using double-entry bookkeeping, fund accounting, cost centers and functional allocations.
• Administer finance policies and procedures.
• Maintain financial files and record-keeping; develop new systems as needed.
• Manage personnel files and employee time reporting; implement personnel policies, leave and benefit records.
• Oversight on payroll and associated reporting appropriate to external agencies.
• Manage accounts payable, loans, accounts receivable; prepare or review invoices and maintain associated files.
• Coordinate financial documentation, review client banking records, reconcile internal corporate bank accounts.
• Maintain accurate grant and contract compliance records; maintain knowledge of guidelines and requirements for contracts.
• Work with corporation leaders to project department and company cash flow and cash requirements.
• Prepare financial management reports.
• Coordinate audit activities when necessary, prepare audit schedules and work closely with external auditors.
• Participate as a member of the company team in day-to-day activities and staff meetings.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Formal academic accounting training with accounting or business degree, CPA a plus;
• Minimum 5 years accounting experience;
• Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise essential;
• Experience with non-profit fund accounting not essential but strongly preferred;
• Experience with Excel and Word essential;
• Ability to effectively communicate financial information to management team, owners, and board of directors;
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines;
• Strong analytical skills with an attention to detail;
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with business partners;
• Interest in energy, building science, and the sustainability of Alaska communities is a plus.
